MOUTH PIERCINGS.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT?
Beginning pain or discomfort.
Mouth piercings often cause sharp pain at first, which can last for a few days. You may feel swelling right away.
Swelling and redness.
You can expect some swelling and mild redness around the pressed area. The swelling is usually worst within the first 1-3 days after the piercing and can last up to a week. By the end of two weeks, the swelling should be completely gone
Difficulty speaking and eating.
At first, it may be difficult to talk or eat certain foods due to swelling and pain in the tongue. However, as the swelling goes down and the tongue heals, these problems should improve.
Blood.
It is normal for there to be some bleeding during and after the piercing. This happens because the skin is pierced, which breaks small blood vessels.
Sensitivity.
During this time, you may notice swelling and discomfort around the pierced area. The area around the oral piercing will likely be tender to the touch. Be very careful when cleaning and handling the piercing to avoid further irritation.
Liquid.
There may be a clear or slightly yellow fluid coming out of the piercing. This is normal and part of the body's natural healing process.
White deposits.
During the healing of an oral piercing, extra saliva can cause a whitish coating on the tongue. This is normal as the body heals. Maintain good oral hygiene.
Risk of infection.
Although infections are relatively rare, it is important to follow proper aftercare instructions to minimize the risk. Signs of infection include persistent redness, excessive swelling, pus, or increased pain.

HEALING TIME.
Oral piercings, like tongue or lip piercings, usually take 4-6 weeks to fully heal, although some may take longer. It is important to maintain good oral hygiene and not irritate the piercing during the healing process.

SHRINK YOUR JEWELRY.
When piercing, a longer barbell is used to allow for swelling. Once the swelling has subsided, it is important to switch to a shorter barbell. If the barbell is too long, it can move around too much, cause irritation, or cause the piercing to grow crooked.
Consult a professional piercer if you have any concerns or questions.
FOLLOW RECOMMENDED AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS.
